about

In the beginning, I misunderstood; I was a Luddite, but now it's good. I’m always in love or at war with technology. Classic sword motif: one edge sharp and able to slice through time; the other edge dull, flat, and blunted by assumptions and confusion and boredom. This tune summarizes the thoughts I had at the time, feeling like things were moving too fast, that I was being left behind, that I was stupid, and that technology was removing me from my own humanity. I still feel this way, especially with how the cell phone seems to rent us out in small doses to a prior community in which we existed.

Technology

Technology—Whatcha doin’ to me?
Technology—Whatcha doin’ to me?
Technology—Whatcha doin’ to me?

What used to be easy, now I don’t understand
Can you guve me the reason, can you give me the plan?
Somehow you make me feel that I’m less than I am—
It’s so hard to reason with myself about…
Technology—Whatcha doin’ to me?
Technology—Whatcha doin’ to me?

By pushing these buttons, am I part of the wheel?
Don’t disconnect me, give me reason to feel.
Don’t leave me behind—that’s not part of the deal.
Give me one good reason to believe…

Technology—Whatcha doin’ to me?
Technology—Whatcha doin’ to me?

All you high tech soldiers, with your loose salute—
Don’t try to unplug me, don’t give me the boot,
I give you my heart, but all you want is my loot,
But I can’t find a reason to refuse…
Technology
Technology…
